In Loving Memory of Mama Odie

One thing about Mama Odie- she loved kisses. The way she’d lean her face in and wait for you to kiss her was the purest most precious thing ever. Oh what I’d give to kiss ya one last time my sweet Odie girl. ❤️

It didn’t take much to make her happy. A ball, a person to love, and a few extra minutes together were all she ever really wanted.

I like to think that today she’s young again. Running without pain. Chasing her ball with endless energy. Meeting every dog she sees and making sure everyone in Heaven knows exactly how she feels about things.

DAY 3 of 7 days of MAMA ODIE KINDNESS CHALLENGE

Some dogs have a way of making every person they meet feel like they belong. That was Mama Odie.

She never cared if you’d been here for years or if it was your very first visit. She greeted everyone the same wa, with a wag, a gentle smile, a bark to remind you she needed your attention and a heart that always had room for one more friend. She reminded us that kindness doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s simply making someone feel welcome.

Today, please help us honor her by doing just that.
Hold a door open. Check on a neighbor. Thank someone who’s working hard. Buy a stranger a cup of coffee. Smile at someone who looks like they need it. Whatever you choose, let it be an act of kindness done simply because the world needs a little more love.

Then come back here and tell us about it in the comments. We’d love to fill this page with stories of kindness inspired by the beautiful life Mama Odie lived.

The greatest legacy we can give her isn’t just remembering her. It’s carrying her love forward, one small act at a time.
#LoveLikeMamaOdie

I’ve been thinking about Mama Odie a lot these last few days and our staff members, volunteers, really everyone who is so deeply hurting, I know we all have.

I don’t know about you, but when my heart hurts, I always feel like I need to do something (thats usually when you see Kelly or I tag 10-30 dogs because even though saving a life doesn’t replace a life but it does remind us that life is still worth living.... even when your heart lies to you and tells you something else. . Sitting still with grief is hard.

So I had a thought... what if we honored Mama Odie the way she lived and tried not to focus on why and how she died and let’s refocus this next week on doing something Mama Odie did best. Spreading love.

She loved everyone. She never expected anything in return. She just made the world a little kinder simply by being in it.

So this ENTIRE WEEK , once a day would you do one act of kindness in her memory? And drop a photo or share the act of kindness below.

It doesn’t have to be for an animal. Hold the door for someone, buy a stranger a cup of coffee, check in on a friend, leave an encouraging note. Help a neighbor. Whatever your heart is calling you to do, just choose kindness... be more like Mama Odie.

Then come back here and share a photo of it or tell us what you did. We’re going to pin this post to the top of our page, and my hope is that it fills up with story after story of people choosing love because of one very special dog who was part of our family.

Let’s keep the kindness going. Let’s remember her for the love she gave, not just the loss we feel.

I have a feeling that’s exactly what Mama Odie would want. ❤️

Then aybe when our staff, volunteers, and everyone whose heart is hurting look back at this post, they won’t just be reminded of the tragedy. They’ll see hundreds of acts of love that happened because Mama Odie was here. #LoveLikeMamaOdie

******For those who are just seeing this story...

Mama Odie was one of our beloved rescue dogs. Last week, while out on her regular morning walk with one of our staff members, they were both struck by a vehicle and pulled underneath it.

Despite every effort to save her, Mama Odie’s injuries were too severe, and God called her to heaven. Our staff member survived and is continuing to recover physically, while carrying the emotional trauma of that day. Our entire Always & Furever family, our staff, volunteers, and supporters has been grieving alongside her.

This post is our way of honoring Mama Odie’s beautiful life by continuing the love she gave so freely.

We hope you’ll join us by sharing one act of kindness in her memory.
