Rocky is a Champ! and the Hope Fund Helped...

Rocky 1Rocky is my 2 year old boxer. If it wasn't for you guys he would not be here today! On the morning of March 23 2013 My Husband and I woke up to Rocky crying. At first we thought he just had to go out. Then we heard what sounded like he was in the tub and struggling to get out. When we walked out of our bedroom we seen Rocky on the bathroom floor underneath a pile of blood. Rocky was not coherent and I started freaking out.

My husband rushed Rocky to the ER and after transfusion after transfusion they saved his life. At this time we were paying for our upcoming wedding in April , we have baby at home and I'm a full time student who works part time. We had NO money. We went into our savings and borrowed money to save Rocky. We just couldn't do anymore. But, before Rocky was better he still needed more work and medication...... we were at a stop!

That's when we found out about Frankie's Friends. If it wasn't for this amazing foundation Rocky wouldn't of made it! We are not sure what exactly happen to him. The doctors say he must of got into something in the trash or outside. All I know is now he is home where he belongs and we take every percussion to make sure he doesn't get in to anything. While he was gone his older sister Belle (a puggle, 5 years old) got really sad and as soon as he came home she was like a new pup.Rocky and Bella

Rocky is also a big brother to my 1 yr old son, who loves Rocky! He will sit there for hours crawling all over Rocky and laughing and gives him hugs. Rocky is amazing with my son and will sit there and let Connor do whatever to him but will just kiss him constantly.

Thank you for all of your help!

Rebecca, Matthew, Connor, Belle & Rocky Goedderz!

Cesar Receives Help from the Zeus Varis Fund... We Love Him More Than Anything

Pic3I would like thank everybody over at Frankie's Friends for providing me with me with the financial ability to get my 5.5 year old Maltese, Cesar, the cancer treatment that his oncologist recommended. When I found out how much his treatment would cost, I knew there was no way I could do it and I was besides myself in misery until Dr. Lachowicz over at Blue Pearl, NYC, informed me about the possibility of Frankie's Friends helping me out.

Cesar MoscatielloIf it was not for Frankie's Friends I would not have been able to provide Cesar with the cancer treatment that his Oncologist recommended.

Cesar means that world to me he is truly my only child and I love him more than anything. I can not thank you enough or show you just how thankful I am.

Pic2I will do my best each year to raise money from my friends and family for Frankie's Friends.

Dottie, Sweet and Playful

Van Every, Dottie pic3Dear Friends at the Zeus Varis Fund, We realize that all pets are special members of families, and Dottie is no exception! She adopted us on June 29, 2008 at the North Shore Animal League. Waltzing over and planting wet kisses Van Every, Dottie pic2on my husband and I, we knew she was the one. Over the years she has been such an incredibly sweet and playful dog, always there to greet us, and everyone with loving kisses.

In 2011, when our daughter was born, Dottie more than welcomed her, and has become a real protector. She is hugely patient and sweet with our toddler and her antics. We always imagined them to be "BFFs" for many many years.

As you can imagine, Dottie's sickness, especially at such a young age, has been very difficult for all of us, and so we thank you sincerely for your generous support!

Van Every, Dottie pic1Warmest regards,

The Van Every Family

Little Lady Gets to Go Home with Help from our Hope Fund

Frankie's Hope Fund Helps Magnificent Mary Jane!

maryjaneI wanted to share my amazing story regarding Frankie's and Friends. It’s difficult to really express my appreciation for the assistance from this wonderful organization this is how much it deeply touched me. My Princess Mary Jane is an amazing gift and overcoming the tragic situation makes me even more grateful she is in my life. I have been continuing to enjoy her love and time since the very second she was brought back home after foreign object surgery. For about a week or so I notice she was acting unusual with her eating habits and bowl movements so I took her to her primary care doctor and they said it was probably due to her being more sensitive as she ages so I took her home. A few days later she stop eating completely and a new symptom arouse. So at this point I'm terrified and took her in to the emergency center. I found by an x-ray that she had swallowed a corn on the cob. To this day I am still very puzzled as to how she even got a hold of this food object or even swallowed it. mary jane-1I had just had a baby a few months prior on money was tight and as much as it saddened me at felt there was nothing I could do at this point, a feeling of complete helplessness. Fearing the worst I took a break and stepped out for a drive to clear my mind and think. Preparing myself for the worst I had back to the center to pick Mary Jane up and take her home since I could not afford treatment. A miracle happened when I got back and they informed me of this amazing program I was able to participate in. Frankie's and Friends truly saved my daughter's life and for that we both will always remember that there is always hope.

One of the best qualities in Mary Jane is that she has always been loving and comforting! Since the surgery her love for me has grown in new ways and I am so grateful that I get to experience that affection everyday. I cannot wait to be able to give back to this amazing foundation.I am a true believer that pets have the most unconditional love you could ever experience, and because of Frankie’s Friends and the surgery Mary Jane received, I get to experience that with her for many, many more years to come. Thank you so much!!!!

Deepest Gratitude,

Damaris Gonzalez

Compassion and Support from the Zeus Varis Fund Help to Save Tigger

Tigger 1 Tigger is my 12 going on 2 year old pup. He is the most vivacious, fun loving, active, bratty, strong and oh so stubborn dog. You can, then, imagine our surprise and devastation when he was diagnosed with melanoma and given two months to live, without immediate surgery, vaccines, and radiation amounting to $12,000. While anyone who has ever loved a pet knows you can't put a price on a loved one's life, we simply didn't have the funds, and had to consider the possibility that we might have to let him go.

IMG_1438Our vet and the team at BluePearl, however, gave us a glimmer of hope when they introduced us to Frankie's Friends. That very same day, our doctor sent Tigger's paperwork to the organization. We called ourselves the following day, and happily found they already knew all about our case and were more than professional, compassionate, and willing to help. Words cannot express the appreciation we feel for all the help and financial support Frankie's Friends, BluePearl, and the Zeus Varis fund granted us. Without them my fiancee and I would have had to say goodbye to our best friend of twelve years. The day we found out we were receiving help, I instantly knelt on the floor and thanked God he made those with the heart, selflessness, and generosity to help another family they've never met. Because of their compassion and understanding, Tigger is running around the house chasing our cat just as I finish typing our story.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

With greatest gratitude and appreciation,

Sandy Burnley, Jeff VanDewalker, and TiggerIMG_1273

Boomer is Better!

Boomer - pic 1I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the donors of Frankie's Friends very much for helping my Shitzu Boomer have his surgery. Blue Pearl Veterinary helped Boomer for several months treating his right eye to try and save his sight and eye, but I was financially unable to afford the expensive treatment and Boomer was suffering. He was living in an E collar for over three months and on pain medication. It was finally decided that his right eye could not be saved and for Boomer's future well being it had to be removed.

Thank you very much to Jessica Stein and her team at Blue Pearl Clearwater for taking very good care of Boomer. Within one week of having his right eye removed he was fully adjusted and totally pain free.

When my financial circumstance change I will not hesitate to donate to Frankie's Friends.

Thank you all very very much Andrea

My Best Friend Louie

Louie 1
Words could not express my gratitude for the grant that Frankie’s Friends awarded me for the treatment of my best friend Louie's lymphoma. I don't know what I would have done because I am a full time student at University of South Florida and work part time and would not have been able to afford to have Louie go through chemotherapy. Special thanks to our Oncologist Dr. Kane for his professionalism and to our family veterinarian, Dr. Logan with Louie's updates. Louie is responding well to and Dr. Kane seems to be happy with his progress.  I know Louie loves to go to see everyone at Blue Pearl on his treatment days because they make him feel comfortable and he let them know how he appreciates them with his singing.
I really want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving my best friend. – Kristin Cannonlouie for website

Fashion News from the WSJ for Frankie's Friends

The Wall Street Journal reported on Ramy Sharps new fashion line and show. We’re delighted a percentage of proceeds from the show was donated to Frankie’s Friends.

Here’s an excerpt, and we’ve included the entire article for your viewing pleasure! Click on the photo for the entire article.

Ramy Brook WSJ FF“NEWS FROM WATER MILL, N.Y.—There were a lot of ladies wearing long beach dresses and colorful coverups celebrating the first fashion show of Ramy Brook the other day at a beachside home here on Dune Road. Ramy Brook is a fashion line by Ramy Sharp, a mother of three who splits her time between Bridgehampton and Manhattan. Her line of separates sells at, among other places, Shopbop and Neiman Marcus, but, because they are made in smaller quantities from more limited fabrics, the coverups are available mostly at smaller boutiques in the Hamptons. There were racks of Ms. Sharp’s upcoming collection and one-of-a-kind coverups. And there were friends selling jewelry, both vintage and contemporary. A percentage of trunk show sales would go to Frankie’s Friends, a favorite charitable pet foundation of Harriet Croman, the afternoon’s host.”

Cuddles for Clyde

Clyde_2

Clyde was diagnosed with thymoma and he went through a traumatic surgery that saved his life, but unfortunately broke my bank out completely. He received care at Blue Pearl in Tampa for almost 2 weeks after surgery. The prognosis was very bad to start off with but Clyde battled the odds (which at one point were less than 10%) and made it home.

Unfortunately for Clyde,  his tumor was so invasive they were unable to remove it all. Chemo was the recommended treatment and the help I have had from Frankie's Friends  has made it possible for Clyde to receive chemo. He is now 11 months post surgery and although so far the chemo hasn't managed to make him cancer free he is still enjoying life, which for Clyde means food and cuddles. We hope that with the new chemo protcol that we can at least keep him stable, and in our family for as long as he is comfortable.

Thank you so much for your help. I'm positive he wouldn't be here today without it.

Sammi and a Chance at a Gift of Life...

Sammi 02I would like to thank you for your assistance with our pet - Sammi (Samantha, Maltese). I don't think there is anything that I could ever write that could convey how much we appreciate what you did for our family. While under the care of Dr. Yakubik, we had an impossible decision to make. Let Sammi have Emergency Surgery or let her be put down. As Dr. Yakubik explained our options, we just could not let Sammi pass away without trying to save her. The cost of the procedure and surgery were beyond what we were capable of paying but because of Frankie's Friends (and Dr. Yakubik), we did not have to make that horrible decision.

In the end, Sammi sadly passed away approximately 24 hours after surgery. Thank you so very much for her giving her the possible gift of life. We will never forget Frankie's Friends!

Sincerely,

Alan Weger Janice Appel

Max and the Gift of Life

MaxMy name is Jane and my dog's name is Max. He is a German shorthair pointer, and I've had him since he was 8 weeks old. He turned 13 last January. I am disabled and extremely poor. I have a severe allergy that makes it impossible for me to be around about 80% of humans, about 80% of the time. Most of my everyday life is pretty isolated from other human beings, but my dog Max is my constant companion. I have no husband or children, no siblings and other than my mother and her husband, Max is my only close family. Though not a certified service dog, Max's lifelong job has very much been to partner and companion me, a person who is almost completely unable to have regular social interaction with people, due to an illness. In March 2012 I noticed that Max, who has always been incredibly active and healthy, started to have difficulties with his back legs. People kept telling me this was just a sign of his aging but I felt sure it was more than that, so the vet ran tests and it turned out that he was suffering from severe hypercalcemia, brought on by a very large T shaped mass growing around his colon and urinary tract, and categorized as a cancer called anal-sac neoplasia. Knowing my precarious financial situation, the vet informed me that without treatment, I could keep him comfortable, but that deterioration would be quick, and within a month or two the mass would begin to impede his ability to eliminate and he would have to be put down or toxins would begin to infect his body.

I was devastated, especially as other than the cancer Max was still in undeniably perfect condition. I decided I could not let my financial limitations be the cause for my losing my best and most loyal friend. I consulted an oncologist, Dr Joshua Lachowicz, at Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in NYC, who told me that anal-sac neoplasia was in fact highly treatable, but that the chemotherapy medication most effective was also very expensive. My mind was racing with how I might come up with cash:  who could I borrow from? What could I sell? Dr. Lachowicz then told me about a foundation, which if we qualified could probably cover about 1/3 the total cost of care over the next 6 months, if I could come up with the rest. That fund was Frankie’s Friends. I agreed, and they stepped in immediately to begin covering the cost of care so that Max wouldn’t get any worse, and so I might have some time to raise the money needed for the rest of his care.

It all went beautifully and by the second week of Max's treatments he had regained his strength, and was no longer struggling with his hind legs. By the fourth week the mass had shrunk by nearly half its original size, and what had been solid mass was now primarily liquid. By the 6th week they were able to operate and remove what was left of the cancer.

None of this would have been possible without the help and support of Frankie’sFriends.

It is now been almost 18 months since Max’s original diagnosis, and there has still been no reoccurrence of the neoplasia, though in March of this year he was diagnosed with lymphoma.

We are treating it the best we can, though because Max seems to have a sensitivity to the chemotherapy drugs that ideally would put the lymphoma into ‘full remission’, we are only able to give him small/weak doses in order to maintain his status of ‘partial remission’. For the time being Max is in no pain, has lots of energy, and is currently in upstate NY, enjoying a dog's summer, doing all his favorite things.

I feel incredibly blessed that we are now in the midst of this second summer on borrowed time. My understanding is that the chemotherapy, the partial remission, will last until the day that it doesn’t, and from there things will likely move very fast.

Over the last 18 months, since being originally diagnosed with cancer, Max has perhaps had 2 or 3 weeks total where he struggled or was in pain in any way. Every other day has been happy and healthy and lived to the fullest.

I have accepted the reality that our time left together is likely not much longer, but have chosen to save my grief for when he is gone.

Having Max in my life has been the most precious gift. He has been with me almost every day of the last 13-1/2 years, and he is the relationship in my life that I feel most proud of and most loyal to, and when the time comes to say goodbye I will try my hardest to experience even the pain of letting him go as a gift; to have the honor of ushering out such a gentle and pure soul to whatever waits beyond will be an honor and a blessing.

I want to thank Frankie’s Friends.

I want to thank Frankie’s Friends for the gift of time. For the gift of jumping of porches. Of swimming in ponds and hunting frogs. For the gift of running in snow and lounging in grass. I want to thank Frankie’s Friends for snuggles and treats and pats on my head. I want to thank Frankie’s Friends for the gift of life.

More Time With Parker

When our veterinarian told us that the lumps on Parker’s neck could be an infection or lymphoma, my heart sank. I tried to stay positive and hope that it was only an infection. A few days later, we received a diagnosis of lymphoma and we were devastated. We’ve had Parker since he was 8 weeks old, and after 11 years of companionship, it felt impossible to imagine coming home from work and not seeing his face.

Thanks to your generosity and all the amazing people at Frankie’s Friends, we have more time to spend with Parker, time that we thought we wouldn’t have.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

Emilia and family

P.S. Parker is doing great and responding well to the treatments!
